FIREFLY: Adobe and Generative AI
Hello, creative minds at Adobe MAX! In this session, we're going on a journey into the heart of creativity in the age of AI. We'll explore how human creativity and generative AI can collaborate in your creative processes. Welcome to the future of creativity!
Adobe's revolutionary AI models allow you to use simple prompts and generative AI to create anything you can imagine with the new Adobe Firefly. Firefly is a standalone web application and some of its features are integrated into Creative Cloud.
These new workflows offer new ways to ideate, create, and communicate and are designed to be safe for commercial use. (09.2023)
Firefly models
Firefly IMAGE 1 and IMAGE 2(beta)
Image 2 is the natural evolution of Image 1, the first model launched in March 2021.
This new model is currently released in beta (aka still a work in progress) its capacity will be larger; and with better image generation capabilities.
What does it mean for you?
✓ Less iterations are required to get the desired result.
✓ Improved quality of images, vector graphics, illustrations, and stylization.
✓ Advanced control over content and depth of field.
✓ Enhanced human rendering quality will be enhanced.
This IMAGE model includes a variety of ways in which the Generative AI technology is implemented in the workflow.
They are: Text to image (Firefly & Express), Text Effects (Firefly & Express), Generative Fill (Firefly, Ps), Generative Expand (Ps), Generative Recolor (Firefly, Ai)
Firefly DESIGN Model
The main feature is Text to Template (beta) which is located inside Adobe Express. This model is the first revolutionary generative AI feature powered by Adobe Firefly, which generates editable templates tailored to your needs. Document size, text, style, and content can be created from a simple text description.
This new model is still in BETA. This means that the current version is not available for commercial use. At this stage more than ever your feedback is welcome and extremely useful to create a version that will help you in your workflow!
Firefly VECTOR Model
The main feature is Text to Vector Graphic (beta) which is located inside Adobe Illustrator. This model is the first revolutionary generative AI feature powered by Adobe Firefly, which generates editable vector graphics, including icons, scenes, and patterns, quickly and easily from a simple text prompt.
This new model is still in BETA. This means that the current version is not available for commercial use. At this stage more than ever your feedback is welcome and extremely useful to create a version that will help you in your workflow!
Firefly-powered features inside Photoshop
Generative Fill
Expand, or remove content from your images non-destructively using simple text prompts in over 100 languages. Use this feature to automatically match the perspective, lighting, and style of your image, make previously tedious tasks fun, and achieve realistic results that will surprise, delight, and astound you in seconds
Generative Expand
Expand and resize any image to different sizes and aspect ratios with generative content!
Generative Expand is part of the crop workflow inside Photoshop. When you access the Crop tool the contextual toolbar will automatically feature the Generative Expand button as the suggested next step. Generative Expand is a great timesaver that will allow you to reduce the number of steps needed to fill the empty space by using unprompted or prompted newly generated content that naturally blends with the existing image.
To prompt or not to prompt
If you're someone who values creativity without constraints, exploring these tools without prompts might be your path. This approach allows you to unleash your imagination, experimenting freely and discovering new, uncharted territories in your designs. On the other hand, if you prioritize efficiency and crave structured guidance, embracing prompts can become a valuable asset. They serve as a reliable companion, aiding you in effortlessly traversing the wealth of features offered by generative fill and Firefly-powered tools. This, in turn, simplifies complex techniques and enhances the efficiency of your creative workflow.

OTHER KEY FEATURES
Contextual Toolbar
The Contextual toolbar is a persistent menu, default in the Photoshop workspace since 09.2023. It is extremely useful as it presents a curated set of potential and relevant next steps tailored to specific workflows.
If you are a pro it will reduce the steps needed to achieve the desired result, and if you are a beginner it allows you to discover new tools and workflows intuitively.
Some of the existing workflows are:
New Document, Open Image, Type tool, Selection (Generative Fill), Masking, Crop tool (Generative Expand)
Remove Tool
The Remove tool is a fantastic feature that allows you to brush over, or circle unwanted objects in your image to remove them.
It’s an intelligent technology that analyzes the image to create a seamless blend. It is similar to the healing brush but it can be applied to larger areas. This feature is particularly powerful when removing larger objects while respecting boundaries between objects.
Adjustment Presets
Adjustment Presets are great timesavers that simplify your image editing. Photoshop has incorporated around 30 new Adjustment Presets right into the Adjustments panel. The best part is, that you can hover over them to preview how they affect your image before making your selection. Once you've found the right preset, you can fine-tune it in the Layers panel. These presets are organized for different purposes like Portraits, Landscape, Photo Repair, Creative, Black & White, and Cinematic.
If you are a pro these tools will make your work more efficient! If you are a beginner you will be able to explore and understand Layers adjustments without getting lost in complex workflows.
Share for Review
Sharing your design projects is a breeze. You'll spot a prominent, inviting 'Share' button in your Photoshop workspace.
With the new 'Share for Review' feature, you can collaborate seamlessly on both local and cloud-based design documents.
This feature lets you create a shareable web link for your design that you can easily send to your teammates and stakeholders. They can provide feedback, making teamwork and creativity flow more smoothly than ever!
